Ram Navami 2026 — Date, Puja Time, and What the Ayodhya Celebration Looks Like This Year

Ram Navami is on Thursday, March 26, 2026. That's confirmed — no moon sighting ambiguity here, no debate. [web:319]

The Navami tithi starts at 11:48 AM on March 26 and runs until 10:06 AM on March 27. [web:323] Since Lord Ram's birth is believed to have occurred at midday, the most important window for puja is the Madhyahna muhurat — the midday slot. For most of India that's roughly 11:13 AM to 1:41 PM, though it shifts slightly city by city.

Ayodhya's window is 11:58 AM to 2:27 PM. Mumbai gets 11:32 AM to 1:59 PM. Bengaluru a bit earlier — 11:05 AM to 1:32 PM. [web:319] Do your main puja, abhishek, and aarti inside that window if you can.

If You're Doing Puja at Home

Keep it simple. An idol or framed image of Ram, Sita, Lakshmana, and Hanuman. A diya. Incense. Some flowers — yellow marigold works well. Tulsi leaves if you have them. Panchamrit for abhishek if you want to do the full ritual.

The sequence is exactly what you'd do for any Vishnu or Ram puja — light the lamp first, do the abhishek, offer flowers, read or listen to a few verses from the Ramcharitmanas or Sunderkand, do the aarti, distribute prasad. Fruits, kheer, or panjiri are the standard prasad for Ram Navami.

If you're fasting, you break the fast after the afternoon aarti — not at sunset, not at any fixed clock time. After the puja is done.

Ayodhya This Year

This is the third Ram Navami since the Ram Mandir consecration in January 2024, and the crowds have gotten bigger each year. Last year over 3.5 lakh people came to Ayodhya on Ram Navami day alone. [web:319] This year is expected to be bigger.

The 12 PM aarti at the Ram Mandir is the centrepiece of the day. If you're going — and many people are — you want to be inside the temple complex well before 10 AM. After 11 AM the crowd becomes difficult to navigate toward the sanctum.

UP Police restricts vehicular movement in the old city from around 6 AM on Ram Navami morning. Park outside and walk, or use the shuttle services the administration sets up. IRCTC typically runs special trains from Lucknow, Varanasi, and Prayagraj in the week before — check the IRCTC website or app now if you're planning to go.

The March 26 Situation

Here's something nobody planned but everyone will notice — Ram Navami and the IPL 2026 opening night are on the same day.

The puja and Ayodhya visits are morning and afternoon. IPL first match starts at 7:30 PM. There is genuinely no conflict here. You can do both and still have time for dinner.

Ram Navami morning. IPL evening. Someone in the scheduling committee either made a mistake or quietly gave the entire country a gift.

Jai Shri Ram.
