Dhurandhar 2: The Revenge — Everything You Actually Need to Know Before March 19

Seven weeks ago, Ranveer Singh stood in front of a sold-out PVR at midnight and watched the first Dhurandhar cross ₹100 crore in its opening weekend. The film ended its domestic run at ₹894 crore net. Globally, it hit ₹1,354 crore. It became the highest-grossing Hindi film of all time.

Now Aditya Dhar is back with the sequel. And based on what's happening at the advance booking counters right now, March 19 is going to be something else entirely.

Here's everything that's confirmed, everything that's been verified, and everything you need to know heading into what is already looking like the biggest Bollywood release of the year.

What Happened in Part One

Before the sequel, the context matters.

Dhurandhar released in December 2025 as a standalone Hindi film with no pan-India release strategy. It still grossed ₹1,354.84 crore worldwide, including ₹299.35 crore overseas. It registered 3.6 crore footfalls domestically — the second most-watched Indian film in the post-pandemic era, behind only Pushpa 2. It became the first Bollywood film to enter the ₹800 crore domestic club. Ranveer Singh's opening day was ₹28.60 crore — his biggest ever.

On Netflix post-theatrical, it stayed in the Global Top 10 for six consecutive weeks and crossed 23 million views, overtaking Maharaja, Lucky Baskhar, Crew, and Laapataa Ladies. In its sixth week on the platform, it was still holding the #4 spot on Netflix India.

That's the foundation Dhurandhar 2 is building on. And the sequel has two things the first film didn't: a pan-India release in five languages, and a festive Eid-Gudi Padwa-Ugadi weekend.

The Film: Cast, Plot, and Trailer

Aditya Dhar directs. Ranveer Singh returns as Jaskirat Singh Rangi — the cover identity — and as Hamza Ali Mazari, the Indian spy embedded deep inside Pakistan's Lyari underworld. The sequel picks up where the first left off, following Hamza's violent consolidation of power and a revenge mission that drives the entire narrative.

The ensemble is the real talking point. Sanjay Dutt returns as the swaggering SP Chaudhary Aslam. R. Madhavan is back as Ajay Sanyal, continuing as Hamza's handler and mentor. Arjun Rampal plays Major Iqbal, who the trailer frames as the film's primary antagonist. Sara Arjun shows up with a gun in a sequence that has set off a lot of speculation about her character's allegiances. Akshaye Khanna rounds out a cast that, on paper, has no obvious weak link.

The trailer dropped on March 7. It showcased street-level action, Lyari underworld sequences, and a lot of Ranveer Singh operating in a register that's somewhere between controlled menace and barely contained chaos. The closing line — "Pakistan's future will be decided now by India" — became an immediate talking point and is already being quoted in comment sections across every platform.

The Advance Booking Numbers — What's Actually Confirmed

The numbers that have been reported and verified as of March 11-12, 2026:

India paid previews (March 18): 3.56 lakh tickets sold across 8,371 shows. All-India gross of ₹19.01 crore from pure advance bookings, which rises to ₹24.2 crore when blocked seats are included. The Hindi 2D version is the primary driver at ₹18.51 crore with an average ticket price of ₹414.

This already makes Dhurandhar 2 the highest-grossing Bollywood film for preview show collections, overtaking Stree 2. The target now is to break the all-time Indian paid preview record held by Pawan Kalyan's They Call Him OG.

North America: $1.95 million in pre-sales for the debut weekend as of March 9. Premiere show pre-sales alone crossed $686K with 43,000 tickets sold across 584 locations in the US — still with over a week to go at the time of reporting. Koimoi noted this has already beaten Animal's previous record for a Bollywood film's US premiere pre-sales.

The Indian Express reported on March 11 that the film has now crossed $2 million in total overseas advance bookings. Trade projections for North America opening weekend are pointing toward the $4 million range.

Pan-India Release — The Key Difference

The first Dhurandhar was Hindi-only. That's a significant constraint when you're talking about a country where Telugu, Tamil, Kannada, and Malayalam-speaking audiences collectively represent hundreds of millions of potential viewers with strong theatrical habits.

Dhurandhar 2 releases simultaneously in all five languages. Jio Studios and B62 Studios have clearly looked at what happened with RRR, Baahubali 2, and Pushpa 2 — films where a pan-India rollout was central to the blockbuster outcome — and adjusted strategy accordingly.

Ram Gopal Varma publicly predicted a ₹2,000 crore global figure if the film connects across all language demographics. That's speculative, but the structural conditions for it are in place in a way they weren't for the first film.

The Runtime and the Ticket Prices

3 hours and 55 minutes.

Aditya Dhar has addressed this directly: with the ensemble assembled and the scale of action sequences being attempted, cutting to a standard 2.5-hour runtime would have required gutting character arcs that justify the film's emotional investment. Whether that explanation holds up on screen is something audiences will decide on March 19.

The logistical consequence is real. A 4-hour film plus interval plus cleaning time means most multiplexes can only run three shows a day instead of five or six. To compensate for the reduced screen turnover, ticket prices have gone up.

At INOX Megaplex Mumbai, the highest-priced recliner seat for the preview show is ₹2,900. Times of India confirmed premium recliner prices are reaching that level across major cities. Reports of ₹3,100 pricing at select premium formats are circulating. Despite this, screens are reporting sold-out status for the opening weekend across every major metro.

For Sanjay Dutt specifically, trade analysts at Koimoi are projecting this as his fourth film to cross ₹50 crore on opening day — alongside KGF: Chapter 2, Shamshera, and one previous entry. Whether that holds depends on whether the film delivers.

Clear Runway — No Competition

March 19 was originally heading toward a box office collision. Yash's Toxic: A Fairy Tale for Grown-Ups — easily the other most-anticipated release of the first half of 2026 — was slated for the same date. The makers of Toxic moved to June 2026, citing the scale of both films and, separately, disruptions in Middle East distribution caused by the ongoing conflict that have affected theatrical release planning in Gulf markets.

Adivi Sesh's Dacoit also shifted its date.

Ranveer Singh has a completely open runway on March 19 across every language and every format. That's a rare circumstance for a film of this scale, and it significantly changes the ceiling on what the opening weekend can do.

The Drone Controversy

During February 2026 patchwork shoots, the production team transformed a stretch of South Mumbai's Fort area into a Pakistani alley for a Sanjay Dutt sequence. The area falls within a high-security administrative zone. The crew flew a drone camera over it without obtaining the required multi-level security clearances.

An FIR was registered by MRA Marg Police Station against the film's location manager. The issue was eventually resolved and filming completed, but it added a layer of off-screen noise to the final production sprint.

OTT: JioHotstar, Not Netflix

This is the shift most people haven't registered yet.

The first Dhurandhar streamed on Netflix post-theatrical — where, as noted, it hit 23 million views and held the Global Top 10 for six weeks. The digital rights for Dhurandhar 2 have moved to JioHotstar.

No specific streaming date has been announced. Industry standard for a film of this scale is six to eight weeks post theatrical release, which would place the JioHotstar premiere somewhere in early to mid-May 2026 if the theatrical run follows normal patterns.

What to Actually Watch For

The numbers heading into March 19 are already historic for a Bollywood release. The real question is whether the film's 3 hours and 55 minutes justify themselves narratively — whether the runtime feels earned or exhausting, whether the ensemble gets enough space to do what each actor is capable of, and whether Aditya Dhar can replicate the emotional engagement of the first film at twice the scale.

The advance booking has answered the demand question. Audiences clearly want this film. The review question — whether the film meets that demand — gets answered a week from today.

Paid previews start March 18 from 4:45 PM in Mumbai, 5 PM in Delhi, with multiple slots running through the night in Bengaluru and Hyderabad.

The first numbers will start coming in that evening.
